                                Out and About   A FESTIVESYMES & THEMSnowy conditions couldn’t stopa great nightDelph’s Millgate Arts Centre played host to avariety show with a difference on Saturday 9thDecember. Perfectly named Symes & Them, theshow is put together by Delpher Gilbert Symesas he introduces his many talented friends tothe stage.Johnny Casson and Gilbert SymesOver the years Gilbert has raised thousands ofpounds for local charities and is well known forhis fundraising activities for the village of Delph,as well as his brass band background havingplayed for the world famous Brighouse &Rastrick Band and now the Ashton Band.Johnny Casson on stage at theMillgate Arts CentreThe Symes & Them concert featured a fullvariety show with acts which included Gilbertstribute to the Old Music Hall Comedian, SandyPowell and his ventriloquist act, as well as localladies Choir the Saddleworth Singers, whostarted the show perfectly.There were also performances by Green eldimpresario, Christine Dearden with herhilarious cake making demonstration, ShrodaLite which was followed by a real star in themaking, the wonderful voice of Ella Chalk.The  rst half concluded with festive musicplayed by the Festive Brass, a  ve piece brassensemble put together especially for the showJames Shepperd & Johnny Casson in theGreen James Shepherd and included players fromthe Ashton Band.There were two of the originalmembers of the James ShepherdVersatile Brasspresent including tuba player Colin Aspinal andJames Shepherd himself.The second half of the show started withsongs and mirth with Gilbert and Les onkeyboard, before the star of the show endedproceedings, the veryfunny and renown JohnnyCasson.
