however, a Chapelry within the parish of Rochdale until 1869 when it
achieved parish status. Although still part of the historic County
of Yorkshire, Saddleworth is now part of the Metropolitan Borough of

Although entirely on the western side of the Pennine
watershed, Saddleworth’s links with the County of York can be
traced back in history to Norman times. Saddleworth, or Quick as
it was alternatively known, was throughout the Middle Ages a Township
in the West Riding of Yorkshire and had from the twelfth century been
part of the Honour of Pontefract, the Yorkshire fiefdom of the de Lacy
family, granted to them by the Conqueror.
Virtual
Saddleworth
The aim of this site is to give visitors an online taste of one of the hidden jewels of the Pennine hills. Saddleworth is a group of small villages situated about half an hour North-East of Manchester in the North of England, United Kingdom. This is not meant to be a text heavy site, on the contrary, the majority of the content is Graphical and we hope the photographs and the virtual tours deliver the look and feel of what Saddleworth is like and all about.
